Dental Braces

Dental Braces (Orthodontic treatment)

Dental braces are used to straighten irregular and protruding teeth to improve the facial profile and give you the perfect smile.

Orthodontic treatment with braces can be carried out in children as well in adults to get a complete smile makeover by moving teeth in the correct position. It is the most conservative way of achieving corrective changes in irregular, overcrowded or crooked teeth.

The general aim of orthodontic treatment is functional as well as cosmetic. If left untreated, irregular teeth can cause food lodgement, poor oral hygiene, plaque retention, leading to gum The length of the treatment is dependent on the severity of the crowding or spacing of the teeth and complexity of the movement required.

Orthodontic treatment is indicated in the following conditions:

  • Crowding / irregular teeth can lead to poor oral hygiene and can also be the reason for Dental Caries (Cavities/ Decay)

  • Forwardly placed / Proclined Teeth which leads to more convex profile and posteriorly displaced chin. Protruded teeth also cause mouth breathing in children.

  • Crooked teeth which can be a major reason for Periodontal problems such as Bleeding Gums, Halitosis (Bad Breath) and Tooth Mobility (Premature loss of teeth)

  • If the teeth are irregular, then it can cause calculus (tartar) deposits leading to yellow teeth

  • Improper Bite that affects chewing efficiency- Open bite or Deep bite. Deep bite may also cause tooth wear.

  • Spacing or gaps between teeth causing speech problems

We offer the following types of braces:

1. Metal Conventional Braces:
These are the traditional and most common type of braces. The metal braces used presently are much more comfortable and smaller in size.
These require elastics which come in a variety of colours to tie the wire to the braces.

2. Metal Self Ligating Braces
These are metal Brackets with a shutter or lock system and do not require the use of elastics to secure the wire in the braces. They are also known as Fastbraces.

Advantages of Self ligating braces:
• In comparison to traditional metal braces, metal self-ligating braces are more comfortable and smaller in size.
• These are helpful in achieving arch expansion and minimize the need for extraction.
• Self ligating braces also help to fasten the Orthodontic treatment. (25% lesser treatment time compared to traditional braces).
• Self ligating braces also allow better oral hygiene maintenance.

3. Ceramic Conventional Braces
Ceramic braces are tooth coloured braces, hence have lower visibility. They are also called as clear or transparent braces. Sometimes, even the wires used are tooth coloured which makes them less noticeable.
Ceramic braces are slightly more expensive than metal braces. They also carry some risk of getting stained from food products and drinks.
However, aesthetic considerations normally outweigh the expense of ceramic braces. Thus, they are popular as an aesthetic alternative for metallic braces.

4. Ceramic Self Ligating Braces
These braces offer all the advantages of self ligating braces, in addition to being tooth coloured and more aesthetic.

5. Lingual Braces (Invisible braces)
Lingual Braces are placed at the back of the teeth and hence are not visible at all.
Individual brackets are customized using CAD-CAM technology / 3D Designing. Lingual braces can cause mild speech difficulties during the initial 2 weeks of the treatment.
